We really have no shame. There is no houseguest that we will not put to work. They know this, and yet they keep coming.
This past week, the victims were Michael’s parents. Bubba Greg and Annie drove all the way up from South Florida. It took them three days of travel in heavy summer traffic. We gave them one day off, and then they got to…
dip shingles.
Hey, they said they wanted to!
This is Annie, showing off her superior dipping technique:

Sorry the picture is so blurry. Michael says it’s because of Annie’s blinding shingle dipping speed.
And this is Bubba Greg, with his farewell gift to Cherie:

They are a mixed blessing, those houseguests. Cherie thinks he’s actually laughing at her in this picture.
In other breaking news, we passed our electrical and plumbing inspection! Next up: insulation.

Oh no, they like it! Everyone says, “What can we do to help? Give us something to do!” I suppose its more fun when you know you can leave in a few days and it’s not your problem anymore.
Housebuilding tourism. Oooohhh….maybe we can market that.

hi cherie!
I am about to embrak on dipping 28 squares of white cedar shingles (or 112 bundles) with cabot bleaching oil. I read your process & am planning to hang 2-50 ft clotheslines. Will this be enough? Am I crazy? When you quoted the time it took you-double the # of bundles to get # of hours, correct?–did that include drying time? They say allow 24 hours but is that really the case?
I’m figuring it will take me 224 (wo)manhours to dip & hang but will 100 total ft of clothesline be enough?
Cabot tells me I should dip entire shingle to prevent moisture getting in. I live in Southern Maine. Pls send any comments my way–am I getting in way over my head?
